Exploring Space and Autumn at Jelly Beans Nursery in Nottingham
This month, our children at Jelly Beans Nursery in Nottingham have been busy exploring two exciting themes: Space and Autumn. Through creative, hands-on activities, they’ve discovered new ideas, developed important skills, and most importantly, had a lot of fun along the way!
🪐Space Adventures🪐
Space Counting with Meteors
Our little astronauts blasted off into early maths as they counted and sorted meteors and stars. This fun, number-based activity helped to strengthen number recognition, problem-solving, and fine motor coordination.
Spacegetti and Crazy Planets
Things got messy with our spaghetti planets and glittery galaxies. This imaginative sensory play encouraged creativity, language development, and fine motor control as the children explored textures and designed their own planets.
Space and Planet Sensory Tray
The children loved exploring a miniature galaxy filled with stars, moons, and colourful planets. This open-ended sensory activity nurtured curiosity, imaginative thinking, and storytelling skills as they created their own space worlds.
🍂Autumn Discoveries🍂
Collecting and Sorting
As the leaves began to fall, the children gathered natural treasures like leaves, conkers, and pinecones to compare and sort. Supported observation and early maths reasoning, helping children make connections to the natural world.
Autumn Animal Hideaway
Our cosy hideaway became home to hedgehogs, squirrels, and other woodland creatures. Through role play and storytelling, the children learned about how animals prepare for winter, developing empathy, language, and an understanding of nature.
Autumn Curiosity and Discovery Station
The children explored natural materials using magnifying glasses and lots of questions. This hands-on experience encouraged scientific thinking, independent exploration, and critical observation skills.
Autumnal Exploration
Outdoor play gave the children the chance to experience the sights, sounds, and textures of autumn first-hand. These sensory-rich experiences promote physical confidence, curiosity, and a growing appreciation for the changing seasons.
